Employer-Provided Driver Safety Training Protects Workers Onsite and En Route

Thousands of companies have instituted workplace safety training to employees safe on the job, including programs that address the safe operation of forklifts and other vehicles used in a warehouse or facility. But employer-provided driver safety training can also be used to protect employees on their daily commute and on the business-related trips when they are behind the wheel on America's roadways.

According to the National Safety Council, motor vehicle accidents are the number one cause of on- and off-the-job accidental deaths. And according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, traffic accidents claim the lives of over 30,000 people each year and cause more than a million serious injuries.

The Deadly Hours of Midnight to 4 A.M.

For every worker killed in a chinese safety fences suppliers crash on the job, twelve will die in a wreck off the job. The Fatality Analysis Reporting System Encyclopedia says that throughout the week, more crashes occur in the early evening, evening and late night/early morning hours than during the day. The wee hours on Sunday morning between midnight and 4 a.m. are especially dangerous according to the report.

While there is no way to measure the 'cost' in human suffering, the impact on a business has been calculated.

An on-the-job traffic crash costs an employer more than $24,000 and if the employee is injured, the cost increases to well over $125,000, according to the NHTSA web site. And half of crash-related injuries force employees to miss work, impacting on a company's productivity and profitability.
